The Victoria Can Tho is the only luxury hotel in the delta. Unfortunately it was a little out of our price range so we didn't actually stay there, but we did visit for lunch, some leisurely cocktails, a swim in the pool, and even a visit to the spa.

According to the guide book there is a shuttle boat to get to the Victoria, but we never did manage to find it. Eventually we just hired a local boat to take us for a few thousand dong. When we get there we wonder if it's the right place because there doesn't seem to be anywhere to dock. So the boat just docks at a construction site and we climb over rubble to get to the luxury resort :)

It turns out they've built a bridge since our guidebook was written and now you can just get a taxi to the hotel.

We start with lunch at the restaurant and some fabulous cocktails. By now I'm hooked on Singapore Slings, but the daiquiris are really good too. My fried rice with crab arrives looking beautiful wrapped in a lotus leaf. Carlo is feeling 'riced-out' and orders a burger. The chocolate ice cream we share for dessert is heavenly. This is also the only place in Vietnam we've actually seen cats, and since we have 3 of our own back home I guess it makes us like the place even more.

After lunch we chill out at the hotel pool for a few hours, which the management don't mind at all. Then we decide to have a massage.

The spa is a few bamboo huts on stilts in a garden setting. We have a couples massage in a hut together. The mattresses are on the floor, so the masseurs can walk and kneel all over you, which is great if you have shoulders like me!. The massage is very relaxing and we leave feeling very spoilt and relaxed, and a little resentful that we can't afford to stay there instead.
