Q - So what do you find when you are jungle trekking?

A - Tree's of course :-P

Well went up to the Cameron Highlands and wow, feel that temperature drop, in fact I really anted a jumper it was down to a mere 22 degrees (celcius) a drop of 10 over degree's in just a few hours *shivers*.

Having said that, I figured that the Mosquito issues would be reduced with the temperature dropping so far, which was lucky (or so I hoped) as the Natural bug repellent had broken in my bag on the way up there... so my bag smelt of Citronella and no bugs wanted to get close to it....

Sadly, when I went trekking into the forests, the mosquito's were waiting and they were massive and were hunting together, I swear there were hundreds of them as large as birds...(this may be a slight exaggeration).

Still, onward and upward were the words for the day, with plenty of arm movements to swot them away, following this very vague trail that led up the hill, with the instructions of at the T junction take the right path.

When I got to the top of the hill, the path stopped, which of course is very helpful (you can't buy trail maps) so I am deciding which is the "right" path and do they mean take the path that is correct or the one that is on the right hand side

I found a sort of trail that led in a general right hand direction and into another jungle/forest and followed that for a while, but when the trail led to a stream bed and stopped, then I figured that it was time to hike back (since I had been walking for just under 2 hours), best not to get lost in the jungle as I know there are some hungry Mozzies out there and I do not want to be lunch...

Still, a trip to the local chemist (needed more bite cream as my wild arm flailing wasn't enough to stop all the mozzies getting through...) and I decided I was delirious, there, on the shelves, cheaper than the Citronella based repellant was some Deet based repellent, ahh Chemicals, how I love thee.

Ok, ok, so I know that the effect of jungle hiking has finally got to me, I get excitied over DEET repellant, but you don't know how nice it is to watch the Mozzies go bite someone else using the Citronella stuff and leave me alone for once...

They say age brings wisdom, but I have to wonder if that is strictly true, there I was, 3km from the nearest town and I had decided that I would follow this less walked trail, it seemed to be a steep path made up of roots, muddy clay and large drops.

As I walk up, I am not thinking:

"This isn't a good path to be walking alone, if I get hurt it's not likely that I will meet anyone else and I am 3km from town"

nor

"Maybe I need some more equipment to be following this path, like a first aid kit"

What I was thinking was:

"Should I be doing this path, if I have an accident I may not be able to Dive when I next plan to"

And that's when it hit me, its diving not age that brings wisdom... oops no, what hit me was I was an addict.

So for all of you that think SCUBA stands for

Self
Contained
U
nderwater
Breathing
Apparatus

Let me put you straight it actually stands for :

Self
Confessed
Underwater
Breathing
Addict

The few pictures I took can be found here, again I think travelling is like having kids, you take lots of pictures to start with and start trailing off.... either that or jungles all look the same from the inside - you decide :-P
