After a week in Toronto, we arrived in Calgary to a lovely 6 degree temperature (what was everyone talking about cold weather here?). We left our bags at the Greyhound station and went off in search of major refreshment a.k.a - a beer! Now coming from London, you'd think this was an easy task, but not here. Finally (after popping in a book shop to check out their Lonely Planet for directions), we found a nice English pub and waited for the friends that we were staying with to finish work. After one nights sleep, we woke up to tons of snow and -10! Spent the first week getting an apartment, securing a job and getting settled.
It's now October and summer has passed in a blur. Not much travelling done so far, but did make it to Vancouver for 2 days to catch up with friends and been to Banff, Lake Louise and Columbia Icefield for some weekend trips when my parents came to visit. Also managed to complete the infamous 'floating down the bow' - a must for any summer visit to Calgary! And of course, I now know where all the pubs are! The Calgary Stampede was a blast (although sun and beer is not the best mix in any county), but now the cowboy hats are in the closet for another year. The weather has gone back to having the odd minus figure the first autumn snowfall happened on Monday. This weekend I went and bought myself a snowboard...yay! After throwing major tantrums last March because I couldn't get it, I decided that buying the gear and making myself go, is gonna be the only way I'm gonna get better. BRING ON THE SNOW!!!!
