Hi Natalie: We were on tour and I can't comment usefully on the situation for people going on their own. I do know we were told that the section of Egypt south of about the ancient site of Memphis to around Karnak should be avoided because this is a more radical area of the country, and that when people go by land from Aswan to Abu Simbel they are given a police escort. There are people on realtravel who have done what you are planning and some who are studying in Cairo as students. They'd probably be able to give you better information. Still, with all this, as long as you take care, you will have the experience of a lifetime. I'd love to go back and am kind of jealous. Enjoy. Terry

Hello Terry, I enjoyed reading your blog about Egypt. Do you recommend the tour company you used and if so, can you tell me the name? Thank you. Claire
