We arrived back in Buenos Aires with Shane and Poco Loca from Uruguay, checked in, and went to an all you can eat restaurant for 11 pesos or just under 3 euros. Nice!
The next afternoon our Spanish class started which we were looking forward to. It's a different concept of teaching with the class room out on the streets. The teacher, Juileta, meets you each day somewhere in a different location around BsAs. You learn some new Spanish and then using real 'actors' practice your Spanish asking questions and trying out different scenarios. Today we met in San Telmo at a cafe, walked around the streets for a bit learning some history, caught a bus to the bus terminal, then a train to a bar to finish up. Fun learning!
We're having a fun time in the hostel hanging out with Shane (at the end of his travels from Phisboro) and Owen (from Melbourne). Last night we went to the drum & bass club Bahrein which is the place to go on a Tuesday. The vodkas were unbelievably strong and we got home in the wee hours of the morning. We still made Spanish class the next day in Palermo :o) It's Shane's last night (and the Aussie girls we met in Punta Del Este) so Opera Bay is the planned destination. Unfortunately, the night came into a bit of a drawl. Opera Bay only opens on a Wednesday to accommodate the work crowd and closes at 1.30am. We arrived at 2am. The taxi driver drove us to the old location of Club 69, then the new one (it was closed) before going back to the docklands for Asia de Cuba. The entrance was 40 pesos (steep) so alot of the group decided to head home. Understandable considering it was now pretty late after driving around in the taxi for an hour. It was a good club inside, great music, but too many guys and a bit argy bargy. As usual, beautiful women.
The next morning was pretty rough. I had to get up early to sort out some bank stuff. A long story, cut short, means I had to get my new credit card cancelled (which was just DHL to me by Andy 'the Elite Logistic' Byrne and a new one sent out). Oh, what a pain!! Thankfully our last Spanish class wasn't until 8pm that night. We met Julieta in a really funky cafe/bar in Palermo (this suburb rocks). We've really enjoyed our course and the 3 of us get on extremely well and are always laughing and making jokes. We went for a few drinks afterwards in Congo and it was fun. Congo was really good. A big outdoor area out the back and the people seemed more approachable. Honestly, you could spend 2 months here just discovering the nightlife - for cultural reasons of course. We said goodbye to Juileta promising if/when we return to BsAs we'd give her a shout.
Even though it'll be a bigger occasion in BsAs we've decided to spend Paddy's weekend in Rosario. We've heard it's nightlife is good on the weekend. So, that's our last visit to Buenos Aires. It's a great city. Sure, there are alot of people and the traffic is crazy but for the culture, people, and nightlife I haven't been to a place that matches it (yet). And it's cheap! I could easily see myself coming back here again to immerse myself in the language and everything the place has to offer.
