The trip from LA to BA was 26 hours door to door , via Mexico City and Santiago Chile. We were VERY tired when we arrived but managed to arrange a cab and arrived at our apartment safely.

Behind a locked gate and up a narrow pathway we found a fantastic place to spend our time here and were greeted by warm hosts on arrival.

We are in Palermo Vieja, which is an up and coming suburb, full of renovation, cafes and restaurants, motor garages and footpaths with liberal sprinklings of dog pooh!

Our first day ended in jet lagged crisis as our apartment key finally died of old age and we were unable to get back into the apartment on returning from dinner. This was serious !!! We implored our neighbour to help ( to no avail) and set off to try to find someone who could understand our poco espanole and locate a 24hr locksmith. No luck on the locksmith so we eventually and desperately went into a restaurant with some english on its menu. The very kind owner, Walter, came to our rescue, carrying his ladder several blocks so I could scale the wall and open the inner door. What a relief !!!We thanked him a couple of nights later by eating at his fantastic new restaurant ( Bonito).

We have spent the last 4 days exploring this interesting metropolis using the Subte and walking extensively. Peurto Madero, Recoleta, and San Telmo have been absolute highlights. The transport and meals are very affordable too, so we are (almost?) on budget. Oh well, not really but we are trying..

We went to La Boca today but were disappointed. Its also a working day and the crowds are huge everywhere so the calm of the weekend was missed.

Tomorrow is our last day here and we think we will revisit Recoleta to enjoy its grand but decaying Parisian style streetscape and perhaps a nice cafe or two, and  long lunch.
