Our second National Park in Utah was Bryce Canyon, which is gorgeous. The canyon is punctuated with giant spires of rock (called "hoodoos") made out of white and red sandstone. I don't know if photos even do it justice. Besides the beauty, the best part is that it's at high elevation (7 or 8 thousand feet?) so the temperature is much cooler than it was in Moab. We did some really nice hiking down among the hoodoos and drank a bottle of wine with our ramen.
Bryce also saw our first casualty: Anna's camera. After loading the cooler back in the car, she forgot that her backpack was still on the ground. They were pulling away when there was a giant bump. Maggie's first thought was, "Oh no! We hit a kid!" so she was almost relieved that it was just a backpack. The nalgenes survived (they don't lie when they say you can run them over with a car); the camera did not. We salvaged all the photos but it was not a happy moment.
So, one camera lighter, we headed off to Zion National Park.
