much warmer than last december

arrived in NYC penn station around 2pm after getting long island railroad connection which was 6.75 pretty cheap and fast. it was certainly nice to be in NYC again so soon and so warm; thus i preceded to undress just outside the station, and put on some cooler attire. Went to get the obligatory I love NY t-shirt for me mum; and set down to eat an apple i stole from the conference canteen. then, i just sat and pondered life for an hour watching this TV crew film some sort of end sequence when some guy meets this other guy at madison square garden.  see some hip hop cars and the place is buzzing with sirens just as always..

Wander towards the meeting point set by emily during the conference and wait for her to get off work.  we walk a bit and catch up on the long train ride to her flat amongst the stares of the other passengers! she's so cool and is working very hard to get money together with 2 jobs.  since i last saw her at christmas, she had moved out of manhattan and into Brooklyn which was where we ended up.  it was really warm in her 2 room flat though it was a cool place with a weird shower, she was really generous to let me sleep in her room while she did the floor; still waiting for furniture...

went for a wander around brooklyn, which seems so different and chilled compared with the city.  more like surburbia and after a long stroll by the sea  front viewing the manhattan bridge, we went to eat at an authentic looking diner, which had really over-sized food, and of course i couldnt finish it.  Still had room for brownies, so i treated her to some sweeties and a coffee, which was really hot. nice places in the states stay open so late so you dont have rush everywhere and it was warm enough to sit outside.

get back and watch a bit of TV and go to bed to wake up early for the trip down to philly...
