Sorry to say, Brisbane deserves its reputation as a boring city with not much to do! We did our standard prep, got the tourist pamphlets, and planned out a walk through some of the 'hot' neighborhoods, and there was nothing there! The day was hot, for sure (30+ and humid again), but the streets had little or no shops and definitely nothing going on (we did find a very cool playground though). So we changed tacks for the afternoon, and took a river taxi to the south bank where we were oddly glad to find a little touristy pocket with a nice sandy beach pool (alas we had no swimmies), and a few restaurants. Then it was on to the decidedly average, but free, museum, where Max played peekaboo with D amongst the glass cases of dead things. Then on to the most excellent brand new library, where there was free internet, AND and great kiddie play area where Max got decidedly overstimulated.
On the way back to the hotel, we found some very cheap souvenirs on Queen Street Mall, and happened upon a sing-off between the Poms and the Aussies at a cafe-bar in the Mall. It was the last day of the first test of the Ashes, but then you all knew this right? Front page news at home? We figured as much... anyhow, these very drunk groups of men were serenading each other loudly with their cricket songs about how hopeless the Poms are and how dumb the Aussies are etc etc. Do we do this at home for hockey? We should, it looked like good fun!
Tomorrow, off to the Australia Zoo.
Cheers,
T&D&m
