I returned from the train station to my eagerly anticipated Brasov home and proper meal of soup and bread and stuffed peppers and apple. I couldn't wait to have a good nights sleep in my bed. I was then informed that the archaeology contingent was departing at 2am on a train to Cluj in order to catch the bus to Simleu Silvania. Imagine my dismay.
I decided that since it may be the last time i was to see many of my fellow volunteers in Brasov, i would continue running on adrenalin and go out for the evening, maybe get a bit pissed before going to the train station to make the journey more bearable. I had a couple of beers with everyone at the Oriental bar, then we moved onto Graft. The new archaeologist french girl Camille was there, she's LOVELY. Everyone gradually went home and i said my goodbyes, then me Jess and Ally walked back to Novada Posti and taxi driver Alex picked us up, and drove us to where he and Tom and Soreen were playing guitar and drinking in a grassy clearing up at 'the fortress' on a hill. It was a well wicked couple of hours sitting there in the dark, taking turns on the guitar and swigging from big bottles of Romanian 'posh brand' beer. Alex played some Romanian folky and Gypsy traditional stuff as well as some Beatles, and Tom is what one would call a dab hand on guitar and jammed along or flawlessly played beautiful classic songs. Jess played some Ryan Adams and Ally played some stuff, and i struggled through a couple of verses of a couple of songs with my out of practice playing and my hayfever clogged voice. Apart from having to pee on a tree cos of the beer, it was a rather wonderful last evening out in Brasov.
Darling Alex drove me to the station. I was rather slightly tipsy and found everything vaguely hilarious. Which is the best way to be awaiting a 5 hour train journey at 2am.
