Letter from Boracay,
Hi guys, This summer I was blest to have a few days off at Boracay, and here are some quips from my stay there.
Boracay, hmmm, lots of words to describe it; a colorful festive place with sun, sea, beach, bars, food, beautiful people and everything in between. For me it's pure bliss. We enjoyed our four days vacation in Boracay care of our boss who gave us this cool summer treat. I went there with sister,my two officemates and their family. We stayed there for almost 4 days. We stayed at had our lodging at Nirvana Resorts( www.nirvana-resorts.com) , just a few minutes walk from the beach, and near D'Mall, the main shopping area there, mostly offering cool stuffs like, beachwears, giant cortoonish slippers, bead necklaces, bracelets, anklets, etc, food, and a mini-market. What I love are the tie-die wrap-rounds and cute stone bracelets.
We also used to dine at Blueberry Restaurant, which specializes in grilled food, but what I usually eat there is Calamares and fresh ripe mango shakes, it's a must. And what's better is, it's cheap.
On the first day, we arrived at 10am I guess, we stayed at the hotel for few hours and they strolled on the beach until night time. We walked from end to end, just to get to know and to also get the feel of the place. We were suppose to swim but it's low tide that afternoon. It's a promenade of hotels, resorts, bars and restaurants like korean, french, italian,a fusion of every taste. We get to be at Willy's Rock, a giant mass of rockform at the beach, fronting Willy's Restuarant. It has a grotto, but what we love is the irregularity of it, the crevices, the sharp edges and the cave like areas. It's a unique landmark.
The second day friday was fun, early in the morning we went for a swim for a half a day, we just enjoyed it for the whole day. And in the afternoon we went shopping for souvenirs and pasalubong. And we also went for a night swimming and gosh it was really cold. That day was the start of the Dragonboat race, we get to watch it, I think the the group from Manila won the competition. But the one event we really missed and has a big part in Boracay's culture is the Bikini Open that night, I guess I just slept through the night hehe. Well, there will always be next time.
The third day's the best, we get to go island hopping, first we went to see Crocodile Island, it was called by its name because of its' shape. We also went snorkling, and damn, it was a funny experience. We kept on holding on to the bamboo supports of the boat and I got to drink sea water because the mouth piece is too big for me. It was cool we got to see fishes in different colors, corals and sea urchins, it almost felt like you are in a big aquarium. The next stop was Crystal cove, an island where there are several caves. The first cave is Crystal Cave, it's like a mouth having a small opening towards the sea. The next is the Bat Cave, it's a big chamber, the water is a bit deep, you have to swim to reach the secondary cave where you have to crawl through a small opening to get to the main chamber. My sis got to see it. And in the afternoon we went to Puka Beach, for me it is the place I love most in Boracay, it is the grandest. A wide strip of beach where the water is so clear, its like looking through a bottle of mineral water, it's sea green and you have it all to yourself because there are only few people around. I felt so free at that moment, and the beautiful scenery was so calming. The last day was the toughest, cause you know you dont want to leave. Again we had to take a ship to get back home, 16 hours trip, but it's part of it. You guys can take a plane to get there if you want to. All our expenses were paid by my boss.
It was like a dream that you don't want to end. It was a light-hearted visit. Like when I visited Marinduque. Boracay is such a great place that when you stay there, you would want to stay longer than you have too.
Thanks for letting me share this wonderful experience with you.
I remember that on our way to Boracay, the song I that I was singing in my mind was "Ocean Drive" by Lighthouse Family.
"Don't know why you're so blue
Sun's gonna shine on everything you do
and the sky is so blue
Sun's gonna shine on everything you do."
I guess that's how you feel when you are from a busy stressful place and you come to see paradise, you'll know that everything you do there will be full of fun, full of light.
LOTS OF LIGHT, LOVE AND LIFE,
TaRits
