The Lonely Planet Sydney Guide scores big points on this one. One of the great things about these little guides are the mapped out walking tours, including the to and from transportation options.
Getting to Coogee Beach was simple. There are busses everywhere in Sydney, and they seem to stop every few minutes. Near my hotel in the Central Business District (CBD), I took the 373 to Coogee Beach and was there within 20 minutes.
For the return, I picked up a bus in Bondi Beach and headed directly back to St. James off Hyde Park. Same distance but it took a bit longer on Sunday afternoon in the traffic.
The 5 kilometer walk took approximately 2.5 hours, and that allowed for plenty of time to stop and gaze at the scenery.
The major points of interest included Dolphin Point, Cloverlly, Waverly Cemetary, Bronte, Tamarama, Icebergs, and Bondi Beach.
