So, we arrived in Berlin on the 1st of June, pretty confident that we would find a house in a few days.
We booked 3 nights at the A &O Hostel in Zoo Garten (West Berlin, and the seediest and most awful hostel to be open in all of Germany), and hit the local papers, armed with only "Einige sehr schlechte deutsche Sprachenfähigkeiten", and a rapidly diminishing amount of money.
3 weeks later, and we have JUST found a place.
Berlin doesnt have the housing shortage of, say, Sydney. In fact, theres about 150,000 empty flats in the city. All very reasonably priced too. But the landlords are crazy!
They want single tennants, who will sign 2 year contracts, blah blah blah...
But, we found a sublet until October, so that gives us a few months to find a more permanent solution. That is, if we can get any work.
And so begins the next installment...
