One last sunset over Cook Inlet on the Kenai Peninsula.

Aug 24 After our project at Solid Rock Bible Camp ended, we drove to Seward, AL for a few days. We hiked a mile out to see Exit Glacier. How neat that we could actually touch the ice.

Seward was the original start of the Iditarod trail. Today the race begins at Anchorage.

While in Seward, we took a 91/2 hours boat tour out to the Kenai Fjords National Park. What a fabulous trip. We say humpback whales so close we could hear them breathing. Also we saw seals, otters, puffins, and the Northwestern glacier. We sat by the NWG for an hour and watched it calve – ice chunks falling off into the water. We took lots of pics.

Aug 31 We drove to Whittier AKa – 80% of the citizens of Whittier live in one building. Almost everyone else lives in another bldg. There is only one way into Whittier and it is thru a one-way 2.5 mile long tunnel and is a railroad track. Every half hour the cars go into Whittier and on the hour, the cars leave Whittier. The trains go at night.

It was pouring down rain in Whittier, so we didn’t get a great look at Prince William Sound. We boarded the ferry Kennecott @ 8:00 PM and set off @ 10:00PM. The lights in the harbor were neat. This ferry is a cross bay ferry and they strap down the cars and RV’s. We soon learned why. The crossing was very rough. I was armed with Dramamine and it was a good thing. We woke at 4:30AM to the very loud fog horn, which they blew every few minutes.

Sept 2 we were in Juneau and had to get off the Kennecott and on the Malaspina. To get off the Kennecott, we had to back out and go out the side. This was complicated and took over 30 minutes, moving forward, backing up, forward, backward, etc. Some of the crew helped us and they were very nice and patient. Some of the other passengers were not so patient.

Sept 3 On Sunday we stopped in Ketchikan for a few hours. There we met Jan, the daughter of one of my Mom’s cousins. She is building her house, mostly herself. After lunch and a nice walk, it was back to the ferry

Sept 5 At 8:00AM we landed in Bellingham, WA. Our fridge was no longer working, so we went to an RV repair place. Praise God, the fridge was still under warranty and 2 days later, we had a brand new, cold, fridge.

While is Bellingham, we met up with Janey and Tom and also Mary. We got to see some of Mary’s renovations on her house and her new condo. We picked and ate lots of blackberries. We hiked up and around My Baker. Tom left for Michigan, we said goodbye to Mary and off we went with Janey, following us in her trailer.

Sept 9 we drove to Walla Walla, Washington to visit Dwight’s aunt Mary. She is 91 and sharp as a tack.

Sept 10-13 we drove down the beautiful Columbia River Gorge passing Multnomah Falls over numerous bridges, and through tunnels. What a spectacular drive. We parked at Astoria Oregon for a couple of days. This is a neat little town on the Oregon coast at the mouth of the Columbia River. Lots of action with ships, fishermen, etc.

Sept 14. We parked at Cresent City, CA and drove into the Redwood National Park. They sure make you feel small.

My mind went to Psalm 8 “When I consider your heavens, The work of your fingers, The moon and the stars, Which you have set in place, What is man that you are mindful of him?

O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is your name in all the earth!”
