Photo “Who Likes Early Morning Sunrises on Vacation?”

Rising before the sun is one of Joe’s favorite things to do on vacation. Out here, it’s hard to do as you have to be up pretty early to make a sunrise. 4:30 am averages a good wake up time for seeing the sunrise. Joe took the car and traveled back on Route 21. He came back with shots of hawks on hay bales, owls with mice in their mouths, not to mention a wonderful sunrise. We had a wonderful breakfast with Don and Bonnie where we got a primer lesson on the different kinds of wheat and grain that Don grows. We learned how the crops are driven by the stock market, the business behind the wheat, and how the combines, farmers and cattle ranchers all work together to grow and produce grains that make our bread and pasta. I thought we might be staying for another day after Donnie offered Joe the opportunity to work at the farm and provide him the chance to drive a combine. He had the glimmer in his eyes but I was surprised when he politely declined and after our hearty and delicious breakfast we said our goodbyes. We were off to Medora, home to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

From Regent we drove along more fields homed by pheasants and gardens. On the way to New England, a town on the map that looked like something worth seeing, we saw White Butte (which is not too far away but really is) from a distance. It is the tallest point in ND. We took lots of pictures along rt 21. We passed through Reading to New England of which there is nothing to report of any importance on except some mill silos and four hook-up camping groups in someone’s backyard. From New England, we headed north on 85 and found our way back onto the highway Rt 94 after stopping in Belfield for a photo op and some gas.
