Our day trip to Batemans Bay

Weekend Four

After Sydney and Cairns, we’re due for a rest and what better place  to chill than the ACT, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. This place has a real calming affect. We acted like real Australians  doing the mundane such as grocery shopping, walking the malls, checking out the “world famous” multicultural market – sorry this was a dud except for olives and cheese. Multicultural – a word used a lot around here. We both joined Gyms and watched movies.

So, what does she do all day , Denise has really got a racket going , calling the 'USA' from Daryl's Braddon office until we get broadband whenever that is. She has turned in her wheels for a bus schedule—despite her initial experience she is now quite adept at catching the bus to Citi centre, ranging amongst the indoor and outdoor shops and taking classes at Fernwood.

Weekend Five

This weekend is multicultural weekend in Canberra. What this really means is a food fair in the center of the city.  Food, and dancing, and trinkets but mostly food.

There was Tongan punch, Dutch Pancakes, Greek beef wraps, Italian pastries, Indonesian curry amongst the endless lines of food tents. We ate, went home and napped, then went back and ate again. This was the weekend that the drought ended in Canberra—much to the annoyance of the thousands of hungry food samplers at the fair who went home very sated but wet, Denise and I included.

By Sunday morning, the monsoon had passed and we drove 150 kilometers to the coast – and little place at the end of a winding mountain road with beaches and surfers. The surf was high and Batemans Bay was a pleasant day trip toped off by antiquing in Bangemore a small town between desolate stretches. Next week Melbourne.
