We were so excited learning that we would soon be experiencing a real life mountain climbing. It was the first for all of us, Albert, Genesis, Jean, me and Jing. We were all working at PPO except for Jean who is my officemate back then in ADI. Sir Vanni our boss has been meaning to bring us in Mt. Makulot for our first trek or mountain climb. Mountain climbers get to taste Mt. Makulot since they say that it was the very first mountain that novice climbers like us get to climb.
From Rosario Cavite we took an FX taxi taking us to Alabang where we will ride a bus taking us to Lipa. From Lipa we will ride a jeepney going to Cuenca where the Mt. Makulot is located.
Soon as we were at the foot of Mt. Makulot, Sir Vanni told us to buy some food especially jelly/gelatins to help us sustain the long and high trek. We had to go to the toilet as well since there wouldn't be any toilet on the mountain. Of course like any other first-timers SOP (Standard operating procedures must be observed). Sir Vanni told us the pledge of a mountain climber "Kill nothing but time, take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but memories" - respect nature as they say.
We started our journey past 3pm. We have to stop for a jelly-breather or carbo-load so that we would have enough energy. The nearer we are at Mt. Makulot the higher the trek goes that's why we're all sweating and trying to catch our breath as fast as we could.
It was almost day break when we reach the top of Mt. Makulot. We were surprised to see that there was a mini store on top of Mt. Makulot selling almost everything from cigarettes, sodas, loaf bread and even instant noodles. Soon as we found the nice spot to put our tents we worked our way assembling the 2 tents Sir Vanni bought one-by-one. All 3 girls will sleep in the big tent while the boys will squeezed themselves in the smaller one. :(
We have to eat supper. Good thing sir Vanni had his camp set. We were able to eat rice, hotdog and scrambled egg. I didn't get to miss home after all (but I miss my husband though).
Some of the campers were too busy trying to get a signal from their cellphones, some brought along their guitars and sing the night away but the rest including our group decided to sleep as we were too tired from the journey.
Sunday came, the moment we've all been waiting for. Sir Vanni took us to the Jump-off. I really don't know why it's called the jump-off for I cared much on why do we have to trek a nearby mountain just to see it. Honestly, my feet were still sore from yesterdays climb. But since everyone indulged I couldn't help but follow them.
The view overtook us. It was so wonderful. Sir Vanni had to take photos of us on almost every place on the jump-off and on almost every angle. It was really breathtaking. I hope to scan some of the pics and add them with the rest of the photos here.
We ordered instant noodles at the nearby store for a change. We have too rushed back since it's almost about to rain. Going back is quite easy for the others, especially for the 6 year old girl whose parents were trekking through the rest of their lives on different mountains already. I was so scared looking down and yet I still manage to smile on some photos taken by Sir Vanni. We reach the bottom safely. Thank God :)
We changed clothes from the store where we went yesterday for nature-call. My legs were so tired still we couldn't help but exchange stories all through out the rest of our bus journey going back to Alabang. :)
