Though situated in a great location west of Las Ramblas in the atmospheric Bari Gotic quarter this hotel has little else going for it. One filthy shared bathroom per floor, stifling smoke filled corridors, a ceiling fan that turns itself every half an hour and surely staff are some of Avinyo´s "atmospheric" features. The surprising thing is that this hotel was actually recommended by the Western Europe Lonely Planet. In a chapter that only features eleven cheap hotels for a city of 1.6 million I´m left wondering what the rest must be like! My recommendation for staying in Barcelona would be to get in early and shop around for something half decent.
