After a very long train ride from Paris the two of us were exhausted. It was late and we just didnt have the energy to navigate our way to the hostel which was suppossedly only right around the corner from the train station but so many times people have told us that things were only five minutes away and they ended up being more like 30-45 min away so we cabbed it. Sure enough the hostel was literally right around the corner. I felt a little silly taking a cab to it. But we got there. The hostel we booked for that night was great one of the most social hostels we have stayed at thus far. So as tired as I was I stayed up talking with some of the other people staying there. For some reason we decided to only book the place for one night which was a mistake. There was a festival that weekend in Barcelona which meant that hostels were booked so we left in somewhat of a panic thinking that we might be sleeping in the streets for the rest of the weekend. But things worked out. We ended up getting a place a rooftop room in the heart of the old city right on the main strip. The whole weekend was full of festivities. Concerts in every square, parades, street performers, fireworks, the works. I swear this is the city that never sleeps. There were things happening all the time. We danced in the square, ate lots of falafel, met some really fun people. We met up with some one from couchsurfing who took us out with him and his friends to get a taste of the crazy barcelona nightlife. Before coming to Barcelona everyone we met told us how the night life doenst stp unitl after the sun comes up. I thought they were crazy but low and behold it was true. We went out with everyone and by the time we looked at our watched it was seven in the morning and the night hadnt even ended yet. Crazy. Lots of fun but crazy. We got some sightseeing in. Saw some of Gaudis work, went to the Picasso museum (very cool), and went to the zoo in search of the only albino gorilla. Little did we know that the poor gorilla died three years ago! Very sad. but we did get to see a pretty impressive dolphin show. After the zoo we went walking along the waterfront and stopped fdor some sangria and tapas thinking that we couldnt leave spain without having both. So we sat down had our tapas or what we thought were tapas. Later on we went out for real tapas with our friend from couchsurfing and we soon realized that what we had earlier were not the best tapas. Our friend took us up to this lookout point so that we could see all of Barcelona at night, great view. Then he took us for real tapas. They were sooo good. All the different flavors in mini portions. I was in heaven. It was the only real meal we had in Barcelona since the rest of the time we were living off of falafel (dont get me wrong i was not complaining) but this dinner was amazing. So Barcelona was great. A perfect way to end the trip.
