If you're willing to pay a little extra, take four or five different types of transportation, and have a lot of patience than seeing Tham Lot Kong Lo cave is for you. It was an extremely long day of travel but worth the long bus ride from Vientiane to Pakse (8hours) a quick sleep over totaling 7 hours then hoping on a sawng taew to the village of Ba Na Hin where you catch another sawng taew to a river which I can't remember the name of. The driver told us this was the end of our ride and when I turned the corner of the bend in the road I saw why, a completely washed out road. A bridge was currently being worked on to cross the river. After three sucessful river crossings with the help of a few nice locals-they were kind enough to call a villager over to help us cross the river by canoe-we arrived in the small village of Phon Nyaeng we were treated to a peaceful view of Tham Lot River.
Our lodging was $1 U.S. and we were the only tourists in sight. After washing up we headed to the only Restaurantavailable which happened to be fantasitic. The owner was so charming and accomodating to our extremely humgry bellies.
