We flew out of India at 8 am and arrived in Bahrain at 10am.  We were not flying out to South Africa until 10pm so we anticipated a very long stay in the airport.  Most especially because the dollar is worth 33 Cents in Bahrain.  We couldn't afford to leave the airport.  However, the glorious Gulf Airlines took care of us.  We arrived and were directed to a customer service counter where we were given a voucher for a hotel room, two meals, and transport to and from the airport along with a free 24 hour visa!   We actually went back to the counter to make sure it was free and we weren't being fleeced.  Turns out it was free!  We passed customs and got a free shuttle across town to a luxurious hotel with a super deluxe room (it even got Dr. Phil on the TV).  We ate a huge buffet (ok so that wasn't so good but it was free) and slept all day then took showers in a clean and wonderful shower and headed back to the airport.   Please note our room over looked the Persian Gulf and its blue waters and Bahrain was like an even fancier Miami with a touch of Vegas.  We began a 10 hour flight to South Africa.  Can I just say?  We LOVE Gulf Air!!!  We have to do the same flight out of South Africa on our way to Egypt and we are really rooting for the same first class treatment!
