Kit and Marsha are cousins. They are going to Europe to visit Kit's little brother Gary and his family, who have all just moved to Belgium. They are first visiting Alain and Claudine, in Paris, who are the parents of Julia, who as an exchange student lived with Kit and her family for 18 months.
