Driving Southwest for the Winter
In and around United States
In the spirit of "it's the journey, not the destination," my dad and I embarked on a week long roadtrip across the United States. To follow is a "slacker's guide to route 40 and historic 66," perfect for those who don't have much time to plan a trip, or to take a trip across the United States(like us!) but still dare to try. It just may inspire you to become a rock star, a nomad, or someone who will vow to never spend that much time in a car again! For me, it was the trip of a lifetime - I got to travel with my dad and to be enchanted with a country I thought I already knew so well.
Since it was winter, it got dark at around 5pm, but driving west, we drove into the sun everynight, and gained an hour on three different days which helped. There were also less crowds so it was easy to get a hotel without reservations, and touristy places were pretty empty. I recommend a winter roadtrip, just prepare your car for any weather, and get an early start if you like driving in daylight.
