Shanghai and Xiamen and Chengdu and Kunming and Dali and Lijiang and Beijing

In and around China

This is a trek, starting in Chengdu, along a major trade route of the ancient world.  This road is sometimes called the ChaMa Road - or Tea Horse Road.  The Tibetans were interested in tea, while the Chinese wanted the horses - so people in Yunnan grew both and traded them.  Even today, the Yi and Tibetans still go to the horse markets.

While the trade route extended from Constantinople through Cappadocia, Pakistan, India, Burma, Dali, Chengdu to Chang'an (or Xi'an), I'm traveling from Chengdu through Dali to the Burmese border.  This is a search for remnants of history and culture - what people remember and places retain.
