Mountains and Red Rock Country

In and around United States

My husband was spending a few months in Utah, so this trip would give me a chance to visit. But during the day he’d be working, so the hiking trip idea was born.

I was a little surprised when my friend Jayne so quickly agreed to go hiking for a week in Colorado and Utah. After all, I had given her only two weeks’ notice; and the seasons were changing -- both Colorado and Utah had already experienced snow, while in our eastern U.S. clime we were still enjoying the last of our Indian summer. Snow was weeks, if not months, in the future. But she said yes, and so we arranged to head for Old La Sal, Utah, by way of Denver. As I was arriving a day earlier, I would rent our vehicle and meet her at the Denver International Airport to begin our little adventure.
