1 week in Portugal

In and around Lisbon, Portugal

I arrived at the Lisbon airport on a sunny day, August 26, just a few days after my 26th b-day to meet up with my brother-who had been on a three month tour of Europe-to meet some of my dad's family in the Algarve region. My grandparents always talked about Portugal as if they were eventually going to move back, but they went to Argentina to work, and they never left. Eventually, my grandfather talked all but one of his siblings into immigrating to Comodoro Rivadavia, the only one that stayed on living in the mountains of Faro was my great Uncle Antonio and his daughters. The Matias family name (a name with over 400 years of history as I came to find out on this trip) died in Portugal but thrived in Argentina and Brazil. My brother and I were really excited to go exploring because of all the old stories.
