International Student Volunteers: Dominican Republic

In and around Dominican Republic

During this trip I traveled with over 30 other college students from around the United States and Canada to the Dominican Republic.  We stayed with host families, had spanish lessons, did volunteer work in the poor villiages in the Dominican (both Haitian refugees and dominicans), and then traveled to different cities and participated in many adventure activites.  We were in the DR for about a month.

As a nervous mom of one daughter planning to go with ISV to the Dominican, can you tell me how safe is this program. How many group leader/supervisors are there. Do they stay with the group the whole month or are the students left on their own for the adventure part. Is there medical facilites nearby? how often are we able to communicate? I do trust my daughter, but as we all know there are alot of people out there we cant
