The Adventures of JBrot in Africa

In and around Ghana

Akwaaba!

Hey everyone,

So I'm chilling here in the air-conditioned confines of Busy Internet Cafe enjoying the African sunset.

Actually, its balls hot. I mean seriously. If you ever thought that hot climates were better, spend a night in a $1 hotel room with no fan. When you wake up in the middle of the night and can't tell whether you're in sweat or someone else's urine (everything smells like pee here for some reason), you can decide.

So here's the deal. I was in Amsterdam for about 7 hours. Saw the royal palace, central square and the canals. Despite being there at 7 a.m. the famed cofeeshops were still open. What a country!

Eventually I made my way to Accra. The flight was long and tiring but no I'm here so no complaints. Got picked up at the airport by Rev. Ezekiel, the program manager, and Immanuel, the Samuel L. Jackson of Africa (this guy is hilarious I promise...he would be perfect for 'Snakes on Planes'...if you don't get the joke, you still have some self-respect. I applaud that.)

Anyway, the people here are amazing. Despite being taunted for being white and being stared at by virtually every single person I pass, the feeling of welcomness is definitely present. I start work tomorrow so we'll see how things go with that. But the beach today, with the scantily clad ladies and the white Europeans with ample cash, was a nice first day.

So that's it. I'm outta time here. I'll continue to update as my hilarious adventures continue. Oh here's a quickie. Have you ever smoked with three guys in the slums of Africa? Well now I have. This is hilarious. Quality trip. Talk to you all soon.
