Lake Superior Adventure
In and around Lake Superior, Canada

To cap off an escalating series of outdoor summer adventures, I take you now to Lake Superior. One of the Great Lakes, it is the northernmost, the most remote, the wildest, the coldest and - could it be true? - the most exciting.
Over 80,000 km2, Lake Superior is the largest *freshwater lake in the world. Sort of a lot to cover, so our attention was drawn to the area around Pukaskwa (pronounced Puck-a-saw), a national wilderness park. We considered white-water canoeing down the White River, sea kayaking down the Pukaskwa coast or hiking the Coastal Trail. However, time limitations lead to the (infamous) "hybrid" plan:

- 3 happy campers (Alex, Jeremy and Lori),
- 4 days hiking in Pukaskwa National Park,
- 2-3 days sea kayaking in the nearby Lake Superior Provincial Park,
- and rather a lot of driving.
* If you're wondering about the "freshwater" qualifier, it's because the Caspian Sea is actually five times the size of Lake Superior. It has both lake and sea features, so there is some debate, but consensus is that it's actually a lake. Albeit a salty one.
