Honeymoon in Vietnam
In and around Vietnam

After making a list of the top ten places we would like to visit, we surprised ourselves when we both listed Vietnam. After further consideration we decided it was a great idea. We had no current obligations (kids) that would keep us from traveling this far away from home. So we booked our flight. The more we've read in books and on blogs and the more we've talked to past travelers the more psyched we've become about this trip. Hopefully, y'all will enjoy it too.
****ONE WEEK TO GO***

Yes, one week until we leave the heat and humidity of Indianapolis for the heat and humidity of Vietnam. Wow, that probably sounds like I'm complaining. I'm not. We are both so excited for our trip. I (Steve) thought I would offer a brief itinerary of our trip.
1) 9/27/07 - Leave Indy via Chicago and Tokyo for Vietnam (Saigon). For the record, I am dreading this part of the trip. Chicago to Tokyo is a 14-hour flight! If only we can leverage our honeymoon status into 1st class for that part of the trip. Clearly, we deserve preferential treatment.
2) 9/28/07 around 11pm - Land in Saigon, or Ho Chi Mihn City. We plan on spending about 3 days there. If we like it, we'll catch more of it on the tail end of the trip since we fly back out of there.
3) Angor Wat - We are going to plan a trip to Angor Wat out of Saigon. If you are not familiar with Angor Wat, it's in Cambodia, it old religious temples, and very cool. That's what people in the know say. And how can you not trust them? We will be there a couple days until heading to...

4) Hanoi - It's the capital located in northern Vietnam. It is supposed to be a little more Vietnamese and a little more French than Saigon. I'll leave that up to you to interpret. We plan on spend about 3-4 days here before we make an excursion to ...
5) Ha Long Bay - I'll describe it when I get there, but it is supposed to be amazing. We may do a 2 night cruise. Not sure yet. When it's over, we will head back to Hanoi for about a day before heading south again.

6) Beach - At this point in the trip, it will be time for the beach. Right now, we are planning on heading to Nha Trang. But we may also check out Mui Ne, or possible the island Pho Quac. We are going to play this by ear. But I'm pushing for somewhere that I can learn how to surf.
7) Saigon (HCMC) and home - 10/18/07
Other than the flight and the hotel for the first two nights, nothing is booked. We have a basic idea of what we want to do (see itinerary), but we wanted to keep our options. So we have. Jafari, I know you are disappointed that Sapa is not in our plan, but we may still change our mind. But, I do need to learn to surf.
