The site of advanced Amerindian Civilizations, Mexico came under Spanish rule for three centuries before achieving independence early in the 19th Century. Mexico is in Middle America, bordering The Caribbean Sea and The Gulf Of Mexico, between Belize and the US which borders The North Pacific Ocean, between Guatemala and the US. Mexico is a land of extraordinary diversity. Great cultures and empires flourished here centuries ago, and their descendants - over 50 distinct Indian peoples, each with their own language - maintain vestiges of their traditional lifestyles. For the traveller, Mexico holds inexhaustible fascination in its cultures, hotel and local cuisine, handicrafts, landscapes, art and rich history (the Mayan Pyramids for example). Mexico is a breathtaking experience whether you are travelling alone or planning a honeymoon there. Let it take your breath away as it did mine.
