Planning our trip

In and around Morristown, United States

Nicaragua

In five days we will be taking off for Nicaragua for a seven day trip of the west coast.  The planning has been going on for about a month now, airlines tickets have been purchased and a rough itinerary has been set.  We plan to fly into Managua on Saturday evening and spend one night, perhaps a visit to the Casino's .  We will take the first bus out of Managua to Granada (The oldest colonial city in the Western hemisphere) and plan to immediately ascend Mombacho and visit the cloud forest at the summit.  Sometime before dinner we plan to visit Granada and enjoy the local culture.  There are not to many motor vehicles in this area and the locals use horse drawn carraiges to get around the town.  The cost per ride is somewhere around 20 cordobas ($1).  We will be spending the evening in a hostel with pool, internet and breakfast included.  The balance of the trip will involve sleeping on a volcanic island, checking out nesting turtles, motorcycle riding along the beach and maybe a day of sailing along the pacific coast in San Juan del Sur.

Hi Kyra, I work with your dad. Your trip sounds like fun. This will be an excellent adventure and experience for you. I especially like the motorcycle riding along the beach...oh, that reminds me, tell your dad to buy my bike! Also, have him bring back a bunch of good cigars for me. Yeah, I'm your dads cool friend at work. Well, do enjoy the trip and get into the culture of it. Awesome!

David and Kyra, I hope you are getting good and hungry, because you will be dinning with me at the famous "Saltgrass" Restaurant Saturday afternoon. Their specialties are mouth watering Ribs and Steaks from the best cattle in Texas. Yee haw!!!

I want photos, photos and more photos (especially of bugs, specifically the huge frightening ones)! I also fully expect you to perfect the roar of a howler monkey (and will demand a demonstration on your return). Can't wait to hear the stories... P.S. don't forget my pebble request!

David and Kyra: Have a great adventure and make Memories! Some advice: (1) Take the cap off the lens; (2) if you have a camcorder, turn it off before you record the path you're walking on (We recorded a lovely path along the Grand Canyon I'll show you sometime). Enjoy...... John & Lu
