In and around Buenos Aires, Argentina

Hi time flies by, started this trip on Nov. 6, Flew into Buenos Aires, it was much bigger than I expected and my first reaction was, get me out of here. It is now Dec. 14. I am still in BsAs but did manage to get out of the city for a couple days a test run.  I did fine so on Sunday I am off to Patagonia.  I have a flight to El Calefete and will spend three days there and then on to Chile and the ferry north through the fiords. BsAs is like most super big cities large, dirty, bad air pollution with some lovely buildings and way too many people. Not bad people just too many.  A delight for those who love big cities.  I went up to the second largest city Rosario, and it was a wonderful contrast, mostly low buildings, wide streets, less traffic way less people, clear blue sky a very pleasant place.  I could go back there and study for a month or on to Parana', a smaller, even nicer city on the  Parana' river with many parks.  Both places have pedestrian  walks 6 to 10 blocks long with tables set out in the streets serving food and drinks and coffee, a real feeling of community spaces, where people would gather to socialize.

I have my replacement camera and am trying to learn how to use it.  My camera was stolen during my first week here.  The old trick, one person throws dirty water on you that seems to come from overhead, and then a generous person rushes to your aid and helps to wipe off the water, while another person gently searches your purse and pockets.  I had read about this approach but when it happened I was totally taken off guard. As luck would have it my money and credit card were safe close to my body and not in the purse.

My Dearest Old Crone: I love the statue of somebody famous. I guess there will be a statue of you somewhere someday and when somebody asks, "Who's that?" I'll reply, "Somebody infamous." Can't wait to hang around with you and make snidely comments and walk around. Glad you're hopping around the warmer world and seeing lots of new things and people. How's the food? I miss you heaps, Phyllis. See you sometime this year, I hope. xxxooo Deb

Aren't crone and old redundant? Lots of snow and it's fabulous!! Going boarding with Emilie at Mt Sunapee on Tuesday after our second big storm of late autumn. And Christmas in the mix. Just know you'd love to be here. You are such a terrific wanderer and a pretty good writer as well. Keep chugging and blogging, Phil.
