England, Wales and the Isle of Man
In and around United Kingdom
We recently returned from a family trip to England and Wales. Beforehand, I started out on my own for a few days in Liverpool and the Isle of Man. As a transportation planner, it was a bit of a "busman's holiday," involving airplanes (from US to Manchester, England), trains (to Liverpool), high-speed catamarans (to/from Douglas, Isle of Man), and buses, horse-drawn trolleys, electric trolleys and steam trains on the Isle of Man.
Returning to Manchester, I met up with my family and we headed west to the north of Wales for a week of R+R, a music and dance festival, mountain exploration, and pub visitations. Then, dropping our car off in Chester, we boarded a narrowboat for a week's self-drive journey on England's Shropshire-Union canal. A week in a confined spaces has its challenges, but the canal journey (this is our fourth) remains worth it. This blog presents some of our highlights (and lowlights), including a photo or two or more. Enjoy! (We did!)
