New Zealand
In and around New Zealand
Saying that New Zealand is beautiful would be an understatement. In fact, it is absolutely awesome. I had been to the North island twice before and had found it brilliant, but the South island is something to behold. This is where a lot of the filming locations for The Lord of the Rings can be found and the scenery is simply fantastic.
The people are incredibly friendly and laid back and many still walk barefoot, even in the middle of the big cities (I have witnessed this in both Auckland and Wellington). It really makes a difference to come across people who offer to help you out of the goodness of their hearts and not expecting any kind of payment. Travelling around Egypt, Cuba and Sri Lanka had left me with the horrible feeling of being just a 'walking wallet', so the genuine friendliness of the New Zealanders I came across was refreshing.
