Off the Rails in Cambodia
In and around Cambodia
Before entering Cambodia I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The only images or pictures that I had in my mind were painted by my brothers six month stint here working on a film about uxo's and how this country has buitl there economy around these ordinance. Walking on the road only and never straying into any fields was a foreign concept. Seeing a country so poor and war torn has opened up my eyes and my mind to a greater depth than I could have thought possible. The people are what make Cambodia, Cambodia. The constant laughter, loud conversation and grunts with every other word. The six year-old children that are driving motos and working behind the pharmacy counter... that is Cambodia.
The trip began with me reading "Öff the Rails in Phnom Penh" by, Amit Gilboa. What an eye opening introduction to the city of Phnom Penh. It brought me into the country with such curiosity and great confusion. Three weeks later I prepare to leave with even more curiosity and confusion.
