Belgrade
In and around Serbia
Where to even start.... hmm im sitting in an awesome scottish pub in Dorcol with a glass of Lav (localish beer) and I have finally found a cable for my laptop because being a south african, we have very wierd plugs.
Four days into my adventure and so far I can say alot, but i can say little at the same time, because, for the purpose of emphasise I will say the short part. So if someone asked me, what do I think of Belgrade i would say "AMAZING"... the long part is still to come. Because of my time restrictions I will try be as straight forward as possible.
As a young person livin in a completely different city, this place is exactly what I was looking for. It is a cosmopolitan city yet there is still such interesting history behind it. Although I have yet to explore as much as I would have liked to, what i have seen is beautiful. The view from kalamegdan at sunrise (even in winter) is absolutely beautiful. I really wish more explorers would come here and I hope they do in the future, this city has so much potential and although i may be young, and some might say ignorant, I can say that this city is booming with creativity and oppertunities.
Its always buzzing and even if you're walking down the main road at 3am, you feel so safe, a total contradiction to being in south africa. When explaining some of the stories of fellow friends being robbed in south africa, the locals are shocked! We heard from a fellow foreighner of a story about a girl who was mugged a while ago in Belgrade by a junkie, the police force acted more than appropriately. They set up dummy girls (police officers dressed as young vulnerable girls, which is easy for them I guess because even some police officers are very pretty) and the guy tried to mug one of them and she beat the daylights out of him and he is now in jail for 15 years!!! This kind of police work is not heard of in South Africa, so it is nice to be in a safe city, actually it is nice to live in a proper city. Johannesburg is not a city where a young person like myself would like to be at any time of day, let alone 2 or 3 am.
This is my first ever blog so I apologise if it is not worth reading, and also if the grammar/punctuation is incorrect.
Caio for now!
