Germany Opening Tour
In and around Mainz, Germany
While in Germany we had the opportunity to visit Heidleburg...where there are ruins from the oldest standing castle...we got a tour of the castle and a play by play of the scenery on the way there from our lovely tour guide, Katerina..she even allowed us the pleausre of letting her sing, "I left my heart in Heidleburg" to us on the bus ride home.
The castle was a pretty amazing sight, lots of detail in the architecture, and the largest working wine barrel, which they still prodcue wine from, although I hear that it is a little rancid tasting...

The town of Heidleburg was a great town!!! I really wished we had been staying there instead of metropolitan Mainz... one long street lined with squares, shops, cafes, restaurants and churches ran through the center of town...a flowing river, not the rhine, but i do not remeber the name ran along the edge of town...we had a great afternoon of exploring and enjoying Heidleburg
