Eastern Europe 06

In and around Europe

In the 70s, I'd traveled Europe with a guitar and a backpack.  In the 80s, my partner completed his professional training in Germany.  Now in our 50s, we decided to return to old haunts and visit new ones.  We began in Heidelberg.  We then swung up through Berlin (staying in the former East Berlin) and around through Dresden, Prague and Budapest.  Each destination knocked our socks off -- and each was decidedly different.  Yes, there were endless ancient and medieval and Baroque and on-and-on wonders.  But we were as moved by the traces of recent history as those from centuries past.  Indeed, we happened to be in Budapest during the recent demonstrations that took place at the Parliament.
