My travels really started with living in Japan for 2 years. If you ever want to live in a country where you may not understand the language, but you want an easy place to live, and you want to be able to find a decent paying job, I think you want to go to Japan. I did research there in a university for one year in Matsuyama, but didn't like cutting up mice (long story!), so moved on to teach English (in Horyu-Ji, outside of Nara), as nearly every other gaijin does there.

Some things to do when you are in Japan:

- karaoke

- make/paint/buy some pottery in Tobe

- go to an onsen (public bath)

- watch one of the many festivals

- watch a fireworks show

- take a karate class

- go to a tea ceremony

- play the koto

Go to a ramen (noodle) street vendor for a quick bite late at night.

- attend a sumo tournament

- eat okonomiyaki (Osaka and Hiroshima styles are different)--like a pancake with lots of stuff in it

- go to a late night ramen noodle stand

- see the sakura (cherry blossoms) blooming

Pick mikan (those yummy Japanese mandarin oranges that so many of us love that only come at Christmas-time).
