Medical Elective - Jerusalem, Israel

In and around Israel

This is the journal of my first experience of real life in Israel. No Gap year glory, no supervision; living as a new immigrant, in an absorption centre in Jerusalem, working in Hadassah Hospital, Ein Kerem, Jerusalem.

It won't be the most exciting journal for the travel-minded of you; but it'll hopefully give an insight into medical life in Israel.

Enjoy!

Adam

Adama, can you please tell me how to get in touch with someone at Kibbutz Deganya Bet? My family will be traveling to Israel for the first time during Passover 2008, and we would love to stay there. Do you have an email address we can use? Any help would be most appreciated. Also, any thoughts you may have on where to have a seder (we will be in Jerusalem during the first night of the holiday). PS. We are from New Jersey, USA. Thank you!!!

Hi, Adama. Thanks so much for the info on Deganya Bet! As for the seder, we would much rather join a family than a big hotel seder. Unfortunately, we have no friends or family in Jerusalem. Do you have any thoughts on how to connect with those who might "welcome the stranger" to their seder? Thanks again for any help you can provide! Regards, Geri

Hi again, Adama. I realized I didn't answer your question about our "level of religiousness." We are comfortable anywhere along the spectrum of Reform to Conservative. Definitely not Orthodox. Any ideas you have would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Hi gmodell, I'd be happy to help! The contact details for the guest house are: Kibbutz Degania Bet, Mp Jordan Valley Jordan Valley 15130 Tel: +972 6 6755758 Fax: +972 6 6755877 I can't find an appropriate email address though, and my relatives have nothing to do with the guest house. Let me know if you need any more info. As for Jerusalem, what sort of place are you looking for? Do you want a nice hotel with a big seder, or are you hoping to join in with a family seder? If it's a hotel, let me know what sort of budget - there's a big mix of hotels there. Or, if you want home hospitality with a family, let me know your level of religiousness, and I'll make some more suggestions! You'll have a great time - I'm so jealous!
