Update 2007-Cortina Revisited!
In and around Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy
Sometimes skiing needs to be familiar; I needed familiarity this year. Maybe because this year is a pivotal year in my life (chronologically speaking!).
One of our big ski trips of the year was to return to Cortina and the Dolomites. I missed skiing there over the past few years. Perhaps its the Italian love of life that I need; maybe because it is literally worlds away from the daily tensions of our business. Whatever it was, Cortina and the Dolomites beckoned.
As has been our practice in the past, we surveyed the occurence of the "White Weeks" (Settimane Bianche in Italian. This is the span of two or three weeks in Italy where prices are lower as the children go back to school. As a result, the hotels beckon travelers with tempting rates!) It must be fate-the white weeks encompassed that major milestone in my life. What a great thing to spend my birthday in a place that I love alongside my husband and our friends! (I swore my husband to secrecy. "Repeat after me" I said to him. "Nobody will know that it is my birthday ". He agreed.) Read more about what we discovered....
