DAY 2 - Dubrovnik
In and around Dubrovnik, Croatia

Croatian sun!!! Lisa and I were both fast asleep until we heard the wheels of the airplane hit the ground. We opened our ezes to a small airport and white houses with rust-coloured shackle roofs dotting dense green hills. When we arrived at our hotel room (after many many stairs), we finally took long-awaited showers. The locals here (the customer service peeps anyway) have been pretty rude and unhappy looking so far. And the old town is packed with tourists. we woke up early the next morning (today) to beat the hordes of people. The solitude was a nice change from the hordes of tourists but we quickly ran out of things to do and take pictures of. We mosied on over back to our hotel and had a nice breakfast -- nobody said good morning to us! (Lisa is very bothered by this. Monica accepts this as a general way of travel in Europe --ie you dont travel to meet people!) Took a quick crash nap after breakfast and then headed to buy our ferry tickets to Hvar Island, which, by the waz, is a change from the original itinerarz and Lisa is verz proud of this fact! After that momentous purchase, we headed over to Lokrum Island, which is just off the coast of Dubrovnik. It was... ok. The most painful beach to lie on, thats for sure! Oh well, now we,re back in the Old City and about to do some eating and people-watching. Good looking people abound here (even if quite unfriendly looking) so people-watching is much more interesting than in Vanland!! Then we will run around the outer gates of the Old Citys fortried walls and then watch some live music in the streets (as its the summer festival right now). I think that will be it for DUbrovnik! We think we have exhausted the citys potential.. TIme for a new place!
Note: we find the idea of paying for internet to be difficult to swallow. therefore, we may not update as frequently as we originallz thought. smiles!
