Egypt; land of pointy things, camels and sand. Actually, make that lots of sand. However, there is a lot more to the country that boasts two thirds of the world’s treasures. The capital city of Cairo clearly has much to offer the history-hungry traveller. From the Giza pyramids to that whopping great Sphinx, it’s a haven for all those culture vultures intent on seeing everything stereotypically Egyptian.

As with most capital cities though, there is a side to Cairo that is less appealing. Namely the fact that over twenty million people live there and every single one seems to own a car. And seems to be driving along the same road as you are on or want to cross. So if you aren’t up for a game of chicken, then I invite you to discover the overlooked cities for a uniquely Egyptian experience.
