Eygalieres is a village just a few minutes from St Remy. Cicadas (les cigales) are insects found in this region periodically and their chirp is so loud you can hear them from half a mile away. These insects spend 17 years as nymph living underground and feeding on roots of shrubs and plants. You only notice them when they emerge shed their skin and become adults. Some live as adults for up to 4 to 6 weeks, when they sing their songs, mate, lay eggs and later die. Olive trees and grapes grow well in this area. During spring, wild flowers of poppies (coquelicots) are noticeable in the fields with bright colors of red, white, yellow.
