Jet Lag and Pandas
In and around Japan
So, we left Dublin on the February first, with an eleven hour flight soon to follow, after landing in heathrow.
Sure enough, it felt like eleven hours as we went from Heathrow to Narita airport, in Tokyo. Upon landing, and navigating our way through the language barrier, we were on our way to the Ueno district of Tokyo. After an hour on the train, there we were, in a packed Japanese train station, with 2 backpacks and a large bag, to tow around with us.
Now I know what you're thinking, 'It must be very easy to get over-awed and lost in a place like Tokyo.' Well, I can tell you now, you're right. We went down evefry street we could looking for our Hotel. We had a very badly laid out map from the website, so after an thirty minutes of deliberation and consideration (arguing) we found our way to 'The Oak Hotel.'
We threw our luggage into the storage area, waited an hour for our key, and fell asleep, in what was to be the beginning of three days of some very impressive Jat Lag.
We awoke at 5 the next morning, turned on some Japanese television and were scared by it, so we went to Tsuikiji at 6 am to see the fish market. A mass of stands and stalls selling seafood just off the boat. We got some 'Tempura Soba' at the side of the street, wolfed it down, and went on our way again.
We walked from Tsuikji to Ueno again, and went to Ueno zoo. A large impressive zoo, and home to the worlds saddest Panda, Ling Ling.
After all the excitement of the zoo, we figured the day must be nearly over, but, it was only 11.30, gotta love Jet Lag
