We left Meknes today for the Cedar forest. Our first stop was on a hilltop with lots of people selling semi-precious stones and a beautiful view across the mountains. Jay managed to find some good stones on the ground including some pieces of quartz.

I bought some pieces of quartz and agate, and a small decorative knife from one of the vendors. We arrived to our destination somewhere near Azrou by lunchtime and while we were not deep in the forest it was very nice, although a bit muddy.

We went for a walk in the forest and Jay and I had a ride of our bikes and late afternoon a troop (I think its troop) of monkeys appeared. These are wild Barbary Apes and look the same as those found on Gibraltar. They were quite tame posing for pictures and the like.

One was even cheeky enough to grab a small bag from the ‘garage’ of our truck and take it up a tree! On opening it he was most disappointed as it wasn’t food, but the ‘treasure’ that Jay had been collecting on our travels. He threw it out of the tree in disgust! When I went to pick it up he showed me his teeth so we had to wait until he had moved on before getting it back :-)

At night we had a campfire, which Jay really loved, and sat around having a drink and looking at the stars. It was really black away from the fire and we are starting to feel that we are really in Africa!

Dave.
