The Blue Mountains National Park which is also now a world heritage area is about 2 hours west of sydney by train, and therefore very easily accessable from the city.
This range of mountains which form part of the great divide at an altitude of approximately 1000m where formed over millions of years by rivers carving out deep valleys into the sandstone resulting in a spectacular landscape of huge canyons with near vertical sides to the valley floor below which provide stupendouse views.
