Yes and off Mad went back into the world of temping. Then it was my turn to throw myself out there and try to find a job. Having never temped before the idea of running round the city pimping myself to as many employment agencies as i could find seemed very alien. So off I went, sat through numerous IT tests, typing (the two fingered wonder strikes again!) and xcel (yeah i've used that a lot! But scarily scored 96% on one of the tests!). A few days later Kellys Services called and said they have work for me, working with the Labour Inspectors at the Department of Labour, for two weeks or so.
I started work there doing data entry for a Government Minsters project with a deadline. I met the crew namely my adopted Mum Lynn and the guys John, Jim, Tazneem, Rama, Ann, Pania, Beryll, Audrie, Fulya, Rex and many more! Over my time there i was steadily fed, with vast platters of food on a regular basis that would fill a massive communal table. Any excuse for a feast!!! Not to mention Lynn's award winning Bacon and Egg pie, banana cake and meat loaf! Get in my belly!!!!!!
Within the first couple of days of being there I was allowed to attend a 'Hongi' (official welcome/meeting) for new members of the department, where I sang Maori songs and did the nose to nose greeting. It was really interesting, not to mention real and serious stuff. No touristy rubbish.
My two weeks turned into two months as I continued to slog away for the deadline, completing it on time. Making Lynn look very good!!! What would you have done without me!!!!!!
I then continued with arranging Mediation appointments, which allowed me to argue with people over the phone. Great fun!
My time there drew to an end just before the Christmas holidays. What a fantastic start to our New Zealand experience, to meet so many great people. It felt very strange to leave but to turn a frown upside down we had a huge send off with a mountain of food and a cooked to order Bacon and Egg pie!!!!!! Thanks Lynn!
