Well it was time to trek around Auckland on the hunt for work! My search being badly hampered by the New Zealand Qualifications Recognition Authority's inability to process my application in less than 100 years we both registered with a few agencies and waited for the offers to flood in! My first day of work in NZ ended up being my first (and last!) day of 'Early Years' cover...yes I'm a qualified teacher but put me in a room with 13 under 2 year olds and I am starting to panic!!!! I've never been around babies much and faced with one after another crying, food throwing, gurgling bundle of fun I was totally out of my depth! Thankfully the staff were understanding when I explained I was accusomed to dealing with teenagers rather than babies and gave me some pointers and I just about made it through the day! By the end of the day I was shattered, covered in baby goop and sure I wouldn't have a career in childminding!!!

The next job was more appealing - teaching cover for an English Language school where I worked for 2 weeks which was lovely but didn't pay brilliantly so I finally succumbed and got a desk job - nice long hours so more money - as a Receptionist...lovely people even if it wasn't the job I'd planned to do!

I'll let Mike tell you about his experiences himself...
